Hope you are having a wonderful week so far. Today I wanted to share some of the simple ways we updated our old kitchen without having it to be a huge remodeling project.

Brainstorm before anything

I always love to step back at a certain space and brainstorm easy ways we can change the entire look of a room by doing simple changes that will make a huge difference and can save us time and money making a change to an area. We all love easy and budget friendly home improvements. Am I Right!? Ok let’s go !

Paint fixes everything

A little paint and new hardware can go a long way when it comes to making anything outdated come to life. Our cabinets were already white so most of the work was done but had this wood strip at the bottom of each door that was meant to be the cabinet pull. It stood out like a sore thumb. I wanted to give them an update but I also did not want to overspend or make it time consuming. So thought about just painting the wood part.

Look at the cabinet doors

I know your kitchen cabinets may not have any wood to paint over but if you are tired of yours, a fresh coat of paint will make a huge difference. Since my cabinet doors were already white, I thought I’d save time and not paint the entire cabinet door. There are other ways to update your kitchen cabinet doors such as refacing.. We would really love to do this eventually but if you are interested in doing something a bit more dramatic, here is a link to a helpful source for a guide:

Use a Degreaser

If you decide to paint your cabinet doors, I’d suggest you start off with a degreaser to remove any grease that may be on them. I used a degreaser solution first and then I gave it a coat of Kiltz Primer. I used primer first because I wanted it to bond to the paint. I recommend you use primer before painting away. After I let that dry, I then applied my first coat of Behr White Farmhouse Paint.

Add New Hardware

I mentioned that our kitchen cabinets did not have any door knob handles. I knew that we need to add some. I looked online for some reasonable inexpensive cabinet handles.

If your kitchen needs a bit of work , start with as simple as changing your handles. It will make a world of difference. I ordered ours thru Amazon.

Small changes create a huge impact

So here is how our kitchen looks from when we first bought our home. I hope this motivates you to do some simple changes to yours.

After

They have so many kinds and so affordable too. I ordered two kinds of hardware to mix it up a bit for added character. They have so many styles . I’m sure you will find that will go just perfect for your kitchen.

Tip before ordering Hardware

Before you start ordering, you might want to measure the thickness of your cabinet. You want to make sure that the screw that comes with hardware, is long enough to go thru your cabinet door. The last thing you want is finding out that all the screws will be too short when it comes time to install.

I hope you find some inspiration for your kitchen cabinets. It was really fun to see how a bit of paint and hardware can do!! Here is a photo of the after.
